Job Description

To provide financial analysis, advice and support to managers and to manage a finance department according to sound financial systems, practices and processes that are compliant with relevant legislation, meet principles of international best practices and principles that will allow the business unit, division and company to achieve its strategic financial objectives.

The successful candidate must be able to work under pressure, have attention to detail, must be accurate, customer focused, a positive outlook, excellent team player, committed, hardworking and eager to learn.

Design, implement and monitor policies, procedures and processes for the team and the division, in compliance with divisional and group strategy.  Establish and review the division's financial integrity, performance and its reporting (monthly management accounts, statutory reporting) by managing mechanisms for budgeting, financial controls, accounting, costing, reporting, treasury and funding.  Manage and ensure IFRS compliance and legal compliance (relevant acts including but not limited to Companies Act, Income Tax Act, Securities Exchange Act, Consumer Protection Act, Electronic Communications Act).  Review the preparation and revision of departmental budgets against the business plans.

Consolidate annual budgets and quarterly forecasts.  Ensure that monthly, quarterly and annual accounts are compiled and that annual financial statements are audited.  Ensure that accurate financial analysis (including budget and variance), reports and schedules are provided as required, including weekly and monthly management reports, consolidations of interim and annual financial statements etc..  Manage budget and resources so that the team is placed to deliver on its strategies.  Continuously look at ways to reduce costs and improve efficiency.

Through broad and thorough understanding of the business and financial implications, assist the CFO with providing advice to the Divisional or Company CEO and the senior management team on the division's or company's critical business issues e.g. preparation of business plans, advice on tax-related issues, key financial inputs into project decisions.  Research, prepare and present information to CFO/Divisional CEO's as requested e.g. financial models, scenarios etc. based on requests from CEO.  Liaise with internal and external auditors as required.  Review consolidations.  Manage team members in such a way that they are motivated, energized and empowered.  Coach, share knowledge and mentor more junior employees.  Assist the CFO with strategic financial management and projects.  Management of all revenue streams.

Required Qualifications

Qualification:

Tertiary qualification in accounting / finance.
CA (SA) or similar qualification.

5 - 8 year's relevant experience.

At least 2 years’ experience managing a finance team.

Preferable in a travel agency environment.

Proficiency in Quicktrav preferable.

Thorough knowledge of relevant legislation.

Thorough knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).

Sound knowledge of budgeting processes.

Knowledge of people management processes and employee relations.

Proficiency in relevant software packages and applicator.
